After meeting the guide we transfer to the hotel for a short break. Have half day tour in Tirana – the capital of Albania, followed by a guided tour including Skenderbeg Square, the Mosque of Ethem Bey and a visit to the National Museum representing the flow of Albanian history and housing the discoveries from archeological sites across the country. Overnight in Tirana.
fAfter breakfast departure towards the UNESCO town of Berat, the pride of Albanian antiquity. We visit the Castle of Berat with over 2400 years of history, the unique architecture of the and the iconographic museum of Onufri. Time for traditional lunch in a local restaurant in the castle. Continue to the old town for a walking tour in the Medieval Center (King’s Mosque, Halveti Teqe and Caravan Saraj), Mangalemi neighborhood and the narrow stony streets. Transfer to Ohrid, UNESCO town in North Macedonia, located in the shores of Lake Ohrid. Overnight in Ohrid.
After breakfast we will visit the city of Ohrid. Explore Samuil’s Fortress and walk along its historic, 4th-century walls. See the ancient theater of Ohrid, built in the Hellenistic style. Walk up to the cliff-top Church of Saint John at Kaneo for panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Then, pass by the Church of Saint Sophia and enter the National Workshop for a handmade paper-making demonstration. Then we will drive to the capital of Macedonia, Skopje. Skopje, a very inspiring destination, attracts tourists with a fortress, cultural and historical monuments, archaeological sites, sports halls, caves of the canyon of Treska river and Lake Matka, health spa located in the eastern part of the city. Narrow Streets of Old Bazaar, biggest market at Balkans, 1500 years old fortress Kale, monastery St. Pantaleon with the fresco ”Lamentation of Christ”, Islamic monuments Sultan Murat’s- Hjunkar Mosque, the Daut Pasha’s bath, cozy quay of the Vardar river are some of the most beautiful parts of this international city, the birthplace of Mother Teresa. Overnight in Skopje.
After breakfast we travel towards Bulgaria, with the first stop in Rila Monastery.
Guided tour of Rila Monastery – founded in the 10th century, it has been the biggest spiritual and cultural center in Bulgaria for hundreds of years. On a number of occasions, it was destroyed and burnt down, only to rise again like a phoenix from the ashes. The visitor’s first sight of Rila monastery huge towering walls gives the impression of a fortress. The Rila monastery is the largest in the Balkans and included in the List of World Cultural Heritage. Tour of the monastery includes a visit to the Monastery Church. In the Monastery’s museum you can see the famous wood carved Raphael’s cross. It took monk Raphael 12 years to finish the cross with its 140 biblical scenes and 1500 human figures, not larger than a grain of rice. In the afternoon transfer to Sofia. Overnight in Sofia.
After breakfast we will have full day guided tour including Alexander Nevski Memorial Church and St.George Rotunda. Walk along the main streets and see the most important landmarks in the city centre – St. Nedelya Square and St. Nedelya Church, St. Petka of the Saddlers, the Synagogue, the Central Baths,the Mosque, the underpass outside the President’s Office, Alexander Battenberg Square, the National Theatre, the former Royal Palace, the Russian Church, St. Sophia Church and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier. Afternoon free time on your own for shopping. Overnight in Sofia.
After breakfast transfer to Veliko Tarnovo where we enjoy a walk along the Gurko Street with its cascade of restored old houses. Enjoy unparalleled views down to the Monument of the Assens – symbol of the city. A highlight is the visit to the Tsaravets Fortress, housing a host of archeological remains & a reminder of the town’s former imperial status. At the UNESCO World Heritage village of Arbanassi, visit a traditional 17th century merchants house & hear the enchanting acoustics in the Church of the Holy Nativity. Overnight in Veliko Tarnovo.
After breakfast we will drive to Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. Here we take a sightseeing tour including views of University Square & the former Communist Headquarters plus a visit to the immense Parliament Palace, one of the largest buildings in the world. Overnight in Bucharest.
After breakfast we will drive to Sinaia, a pearl of the Carpathians, here you will visit the Royal castle of Peles – home of the Romanian Royal Family.
We continue further to visit Bran Castle. This medieval fortress was built in the 14th century as a defensive border point crossing into Transylvania and to prevent the expansion of the Ottoman Empire. Located in highpoint overlooking the mountains and a valley crossing, the sight of Bran Castle’s imposing and scary Enjoy a guided tour of the well-known castle when you will find out stories about the infamous Vlad the Impaler and also about the royal family.
Return to Bucharest. Overnight in Bucharest.
